Be part of Boomer’s team and join the annual SPIN-A-THON on Wednesday, June 10 at the 19 Wing Fitness Centre.
The event is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and provides members of 19 Wing an opportunity to support the BC bike ride while at home. PSP will be hosting a one-hour yoga session immediately following the spin-a-thon. Team entries are highly encouraged, with prizes available to participants; each participant will receive a Boomer’s Team shirt.
For every minute a participant spins, a donation of one dollar ($1.00) must be raised. All funds raised through the spin-a-thon will go directly to the Boomer’s Legacy fund. More than $1,500 was raised during the 2014 spin-a-thon.
The 2015 Boomer’s Legacy BC bike ride will leave from 19 Wing Comox on Saturday, June 13, and arrive in Victoria on Sunday, June 14.
The annual ride is the main fundraising event for Boomer’s Legacy, a charity named after Corporal Andrew “Boomer” Eykelenboom, a dedicated soldier and a Canadian Forces medic, who was killed by a suicide bomber on August 11, 2006. Andrew was committed to saving lives and helping the Afghan people realize freedom; his death was the catalyst to creating the legacy foundation to help men and women in uniform make a positive difference in the lives of others. Andrew’s humanitarian spirit lives on through this Support Our Troops Program, an entity of Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services (CFMWS).
Boomer’s Legacy funds projects identified by any CAF member to provide an opportunity of goodwill and a positive view of the CAF from the perspective of the local population being assisted. If any CAF member has a project that requires funding and fits this mandate, contact Capt Andrew Vandor for details on how to access the funds.
To join the spin-a-thon, or for more information regarding Boomer’s Legacy BC bike ride, contact Capt Andrew Vandor at local 8742, or Cpl Jesse Callejo at local 7187.
